Pumyra seems to be an angry, ill-tempered Cat. This seen very often, especially when meeting Lion-O for the first time, (since she deemed him responsible for the fall of Thundera and suffering of its survivors) but in the end she forgives him, due to the loyalty towards his people and even flirts with him. Even so she is shown to be strong-willed, independent person regardless of the situation and comes to understand the meaning of mercy, through Lion-O's teaching. In spite of her harsh exterior she does have a softer side that so far only Lion-O has seen, in "The Pit" she nearly broke down in tears as she described the suffering of the Thunderian slaves, and in "Recipe for Disaster" she tenderly helped a baby winged frog that had fallen out of its nest.

However, a new side of her is shown in [[What Lies Above, Part 1]], where she is shown to be the one amongst her fellow ThunderCats most adamant in taking the next power stone, the Tech Stone, from Birdkind, and doesn't even care that the Tech Stone, if removed, would nullify the anti-gravity generator that keeps the Birds' city Avista in the air, and the city would be destroyed.

This could signify that Pumyra only cares about the Cats and not the other animals, and is willing to make the tough choices for her people.

For the 80's incarnation look here.

Template:Character Pumyra is a Cat who was forced to fight as a gladiatrix in the City of Dogs after ending up their slave. It seems that she was a healer of some sort before Thundera fell, as she seems to have medical knowledge.

History

When encountered by Lion-O, Pumyra was a slave in the City of Dogs. Pumyra blamed Lion-O for what happened the day when Thundera fell to Mumm-Ra and that the rest of the Thunderians had suffered for this defeat. This left her disillusioned and resentful towards the Royal Family of Thundera.

Dobo ended up pairing Lion-O and Pumyra against each other in the Pit for the entertainment of the Dogs. Even though Pumyra had defeated Lion-O, she couldn't bring herself to finish him off. The Dogs chanted to Dobo to let Lion-O and Pumyra live causing Dobo to set them free.

When Lion-O asks about the other Cat slaves, Pumyra tells them that they are being held at Mount Plun-Darr.

When Pumyra joins Lion-O, Tygra, Cheetara, and Panthro into raiding Mount Plun-Darr, they discover Ratar-O and his Rats are forcing the Cat slaves to excavate the Sword of Plun-Darr. During the raid, she recalls on how she was once a slave to them before being handed over to the Dogs. When Pumyra notices Lion-O's concern for Cheetara when she and Tygra plan to infiltrate the slave ranks, she asked Lion-O if he still liked her, which he quickly denies and claims that he's over it. She then teases him that if that were the case, then "Maybe it's time you move on to someone else", to which Lion-O gives a rather flustered look.

She, Lion-O and Panthro then go to rescue the Cat slaves, but when Pumyra sees Mordax whipping one of them, she angrily charges off and knocks him down. She proceeded to beat him until Lion-O intervened, but when he did, she simply knocked him aside and then attempted to kill Mordax, stating that she would make sure he'd never touch another cat. Lion-O once again stopped her and this time, explained the virtue of mercy to her. She reluctantly agrees, but when Mordax captures them and brings them to Ratar-O, she blames Lion-O's mercy for getting them into said situation. However, before Ratar-O could have the three executed, the mine began to cave in (courtesy of Tygra and Cheetara finding of the Sword of Plun-Darr) and buried everyone alive. Lion-O managed to defeat Ratar-O (thanks to showing Mordax mercy) and then helped Pumyra out from under the rubble. She then says "Perhaps there is room for Mercy in our struggle" with a smile.

She and Lion-O then choose to enter Mount Plun-Darr in order to keep the Sword of Plun-Darr from Mumm-Ra's forces, as well as to buying the newly liberated cat slaves enough time to get to safety. Mumm-Ra, able to sense the sword's wherabouts, sends in Kaynar and Addicus, as well as several lizards to procure the blade, but Lion-O and Pumyra managed to avoid capture. Deciding that it is best to split up to confuse the enemy, Lion-O and Pumyra part ways, but almost immediately, Pumyra is captured by Mumm-Ra and is tied to one of the large crystals that hang from the walls of the mountain.

After a struggle for posession of the blade, Lion-O manages to get it away from Mumm-Ra, but before he can reclaim it, Mumm-Ra threatens Pumyra in an attempt to play the Lord of the ThunderCats' emotions. After then taunting Lion-O with "Will you be the first of species to choose power over emotions", he sends Pumyra plummeting to the floor, thus forcing Lion-O's hand. He abandons the sword and saves Pumyra, giving Mumm-Ra just enough time to take the swords and make his escape. The two cats, both fatigued and battered from their ordeal, then sit and talk on the floor. Pumyra apologizes to Lion-O for her treatment of her king and Lion-O pardons it, saying that she "deserves more". He then asks her to call him by name from that point on. She responds by agreeing to do so and caressing his face. The two later emerge from the mountain and report to their fellow cats about the events that had unfolded.

Personality

Pumyra seems to be an angry, ill-tempered Cat. This seen very often, especially when meeting Lion-O for the first time, (since she deemed him responsible for the fall of Thundera and suffering of its survivors) but in the end she forgives him, due to the loyalty towards his people and even flirts with him. Even so she is shown to be strong-willed, independent person regardless of the situation and comes to understand the meaning of mercy, through Lion-O's teaching. In spite of her harsh exterior she does have a softer side that so far only Lion-O has seen, such as nearly breaking down in tears as she described the suffering of the Thunderian slaves or when she tenderly helped a baby winged frog that had fallen out of its nest. A new side of her was shown recently that signifies that she only cares about her species and not the other animals, a disposition held by Cats for a long time. She was willing to sacrifice the city of Birds, Avista, by taking the Tech Stone and knowing if removed Avista would fall from the sky and be destroyed.

Appearance

  • She has amber eyes and brown hair with white highlights reaching her upper back. It is tied in a ponytail with strands framing both sides of her face. She is more slender yet curvy and athletic in build than her 80´s incarnation.
  • She wears a dark brown dress with golden manacles and a garter on her right thigh. Her necklace has a small black stone bound by a red chord and a bag on her hip stores the ammo for her wrist bow. Unlike the other cats who wear spat-like coverings on their feet that expose their heels and toes, she is always barefoot.

Weapon(s)

Pumyra uses a wrist-mounted crossbow in battle and she is shown to be skilled enough to defeat a Gormax, who was able to defeat three dog gladiators with relative ease. She also carries bolas that she can throw as a snare that store on a garter on her left hip. In "Curse of Ratilla" she also carries a knife.

Relationships

Lion-O

Pumyra initially held little regard for Lion-O, blaming him and his absence for the fate of the Thunderian race and the subsequent enslavement. This hatred and rage manifested in a near homicidal desire for vengeance against him as she nearly took his life after severely beating him in The Pit. But after she witnessed the lengths Lion-O was willing to go to in order to prove his loyalty to her and their people, she spared his life although her initial attitude towards Lion-O would remain until much later. While in Mt. Plun-Darr, she seemed more cooperative with him, telling him, "If you were anyone but King, that rat would be dead." And while she initially blamed his sense of mercy for getting them captured she also noted that Lion-O's kindness to the rat Mordax is what saved their lives. After having her life saved numerous times in spite of her treatment of Lion-O, she deemed herself unworthy of his compassion. Lion-O insisted that after everything she suffered she deserves more and to call him by name instead of his title, she responds by caressing his face. More recently his attempt to court her have only served to confuse and annoy her, but after he once again saves her life she rewarded him with an enthusiastic kiss on the cheek.
